For many years the experienced staff at Gear For Days has been taking care of media transfers for a wide variety of clients with a wide variety of needs. We own a large compliment of analog and digital tape machines, from several eras of recording, as well as several different models of hard disk recorders. We keep all of our recorders well maintained for the purpose of transferring media, as well as recording. For the process of transferring Analog media into the digital realm we generally use a state of the art Pro Tools HD accel rig with Digidesign 192 i/o A>D converters, capable of recording your media at sample rates of up to 192 kHz. With digital tape media, in most cases, we can do a straight digital to digital transfer to ensure that no sound quality is given up with an extra D>A/A>D conversion.

* We can also do transfers from different hard disk recorders to Pro Tools, or the hard disk recorder of your choice (Subject to availability). If you have hard drives or DVD backups from a Radar, hard drives from an HD 24, etc. and need them transferred to a Pro Tools session or to Radar, etc.

For those projects that require tape restoration Gear For Days has your answer. Stored improperly, analog tape can become damaged and reduced to an unusable and unplayable state. This is often a result of tapes being stored in a non-climate controlled environment for long periods of time, but the deterioration process can be accelerated dramatically in extreme conditions. We can take tapes that have been stored improperly and restore them, through a baking process, returning them to a useable/playable state temporarily, in order to get the transfer accomplished. This process is not extremely expensive, but is usually fairly time consuming. Depending on the condition of the tapes it can take several hours to restore each tape to a useable state. In some extreme cases tapes may be in an un-restorable condition. We have the knowledge and expertise to know how to handle these situations and restore your valuable material to a playable condition safely, effectively, and affordably (Usually about $25 per reel).

Transfer Pricing structure: All transfers, except 2 track transfers, have a $100 initial setup fee to get started. For all 2 track transfers there is a $50 setup fee. This fee covers the cost/time of setting up the equipment required to perform the transfer. After the initial setup fee has been applied a set per reel charge is billed for each reel/tape that is transferred.

2" 24 track, 1" 16 track, 1/2" 16 track, 1/2" 48 track (DASH), 1" 32 track- $50/reel
1/2" or 1/4" 2 track analog- $40/reel
DTRS, DAT, or ADAT- $40/tape
Hard Disk Transfers (HD24, Radar, etc.): $50/hour (minimum 1 hour fee)

If a particular format of noise reduction is required to complete your transfer (ex: Dolby, DBX, etc.) additional charges will apply. Gear For Days has a nice compliment of different formats of noise reduction equipment. If your project requires this additional equipment please call us for details and availability.

Tape Baking Restoration: *If restoration of tapes is required, to bring analog tapes to a playable condition, an additional fee per reel will be applied to the invoice for the restoration process. Cost a flat rate of $25 for 1 reel, or $15/reel for 2 or more reels of tape.

*Gear For Days can perform transfers on other formats than listed. This is subject to availability and pricing of machines required for the transfer.

*Transfers are performed under the above pricing structure subject to the availability of Gear For Days rental equipment. As all of the equipment that we use to transfer media is also available for rental to our clients, we must work on media transfers on days when the required equipment is not booked for a rental. In doing things this way, we can keep the cost of transfers as affordable as possible. We can usually get transfers done in a quick and timely manner, as we have a large compliment of equipment in house. However, if your transfer must be done on a specific day(s) or within a very short specific timeframe, in order to meet a close deadline, it is recommended that you book the equipment needed as a rental for that day(s) so it will not be available for rental to another client on that day(s). All transfers that are submitted to Gear For Days are top priority and are completed as quickly as possible, subject to the availability of the equipment required. (We can usually complete any transfer request within a day to a few days, depending on the size of the transfer and what gear is required. We want to turn the finished product around to you as quickly as we can, so you can get started working with it asap. )

*This page is meant to give you a general idea for the cost of a media transfer. Since many transfers often present a unique set of requirements please call and let us put together a custom quote for your transfer. We can ask you a few questions and then give you a quote that you can count on so you can plan your budget accurately.
